On August 31, 2025, Dr. Qiao Fangli, Director of DCC-OCC, was invited to Shandong Education TV’s First Lesson of the New Semester program, where he delivered a lively and engaging ocean science class to primary and secondary school students across the province.

With the vivid analogy, “When the ocean sneezes, the climate system catches a severe cold,” Dr. Qiao explained in simple and accessible terms the crucial role of the ocean in regulating the global climate system and highlighted the far-reaching impacts of ocean changes on human society. He called on students to take action in their daily lives to protect the marine environment, cultivate scientific curiosity, and work together to safeguard our shared blue planet.

Dr. Qiao expressed his hope that the class would inspire young people’s interest in ocean science, encouraging more to pursue research in the marine field and contribute wisdom and strength to global sustainable development.
