On September 1, Peter Harrison, Senior Vice President of Elsevier, together with Haiyan Sun, Publisher for Ocean Journals, and Shenpeng Tian, Senior Manager of the Research Solutions Division, visited our DCC-OCC. Li Tiegang, Director of the First Institute of Oceanography (FIO), Ministry of Natural Resources, along with Deputy Director of FIO and Director of DCC-OCC, Dr. Qiao Fangli and representatives from relevant departments, attended the meeting.
At the meeting, Director Li welcomed Dr. Harrison and his delegation. Dr. Qiao Fangli introduced the major achievements FIO has made in contributing to the UN Ocean Decade. Representatives from our center and the OSF Programme also presented progress in promoting regional cooperation, sharing public goods, and enhancing capacity building.
Dr. Harrison highly commended the fruitful outcomes achieved since the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding with our center in July 2024, and expressed strong expectations for further deepening collaboration. Both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on future cooperation plans and reached a preliminary consensus. Going forward, under the framework of the UN Ocean Decade, the two parties will continue to expand collaboration, with a focus on co-organizing ocean journals and special issues for the Ocean Decade, as well as supporting the development of young ocean scientists—working together to advance global ocean sustainability goals.
During the visit, Dr. Harrison and his delegation visited the China Ocean Sample Repository.
