On November 9, 2025, co-organized by DCC-OCC, the parallel forum titled “Digital Intelligence Era and Sustainable Ocean Development — Opportunities and Challenges of the UN Ocean Decade” was successfully held at Peking University. The forum brought together more than 100 experts and scholars from around the world and over 7,000 online participants to explore how digital intelligence technologies can empower marine science and global ocean governance, and to exchange views on global collaboration and pathways to sustainable development under the Ocean Decade.

Professor Qiao Fangli, Director of DCC-OCC, systematically introduced the third‑generation typhoon model developed by his team. Based on three disruptive theoretical innovations, this model has broken through the long‑standing international bottleneck in typhoon intensity prediction and has been successfully applied in global disaster prevention and mitigation. It stands as a key contribution of the Ocean Decade to helping human society cope with extreme weather events.

Prof.Qiao delivered a speech
Dr. Guan Song, Senior, Senior Project Officer of DCC-OCC, moderated a roundtable discussion on the themes of “Implementation Priorities for the Next Five Years and The Post Ocean Decade Era”. The discussion was joined by Alison Clausen, Global Deputy Coordinator of the UN Ocean Decade; Professor Qiao Fangli, Dr. Sana Ben Ismail, Head of the Marine Environment Laboratory of the National Institute of Marine Science and Technology of Tunisia; Professor Yu Weidong, Vice Dean of the School of Atmospheric Sciences, Sun Yat‑Sen University; and Associate Researcher Zhang Shuangshang of the Administrative Centre for China’s Agenda 21. Together they outlined the implementation priorities for the second half of the Ocean Decade (2025‑2030) and long‑term sustainability mechanisms. The forum issued the Beijing Declaration on the Ocean Decade and launched the Peking University‑Elsevier Ocean Decade special issue collaboration.

Roundtable Discussion
Looking ahead, DCC-OCC will continue to advance scientific cooperation and global governance in the fields of ocean and climate, deepen the integration of science, policy, and society, and promote technological innovation and capacity building. We aim to contribute to achieving the vision of the Ocean Decade and the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, and to help build a shared future for the ocean.
