Recently, DCC-OCC held discussions with the Global Ocean Decade Programme for Blue Carbon (GO-BC), which it coordinates. The two sides exchanged updates on topics including blue carbon research collaboration, capacity building, policy alignment, and preparations for key events.

During the virtual meeting, Dr. Guan Song, Senior Project Director of DCC-OCC, outlined the center’s major achievements. Prof. William Austin, Lead of GO-BC, provided updates on the program’s implementation progress in South Africa, Indonesia, Indian Ocean coastal nations, and the Caribbean. He also shared preparations for the blue carbon session at the European Geosciences Union General Assembly, the side event at the third UN Ocean Conference, and the SCOR project (Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research) led by Australia and the UK, which plans to involve Chinese scientists. Prof. Yu Weidong, Scientific Executive Director of DCC-OCC, commended GO-BC’s work and highlighted the significant complementarity and collaboration potential between the two organizations in blue carbon initiatives, particularly in regions like the Indian Ocean.

This engagement exemplifies DCC-OCC’s commitment to coordinating Ocean Decade grand scientific plans, setting a clear direction for advancing joint actions and implementation.
