Since the initiation of the "United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development （2021-2030）" （referred to as the "Ocean Decade"） on January 1, 2021, it has received positive responses from the international community. China has actively organized and participated in the implementation of the "Ocean Decade" at multiple levels and through various means, involving government departments, research institutions, enterprises, civil organizations, and more. The country has played a crucial role, including the establishment of a national committee, the approval of the Ocean and Climate Cooperation Center, and the initiation of multiple major scientific plans, projects, and activities. Remarkable achievements have been made internationally.
As the Ocean Decade approaches its first three-year summary and assessment, the second global conference of the "Ocean Decade" is scheduled to take place in Barcelona, Spain, in April 2024. To timely exchange experiences, summarize achievements, promote China's deeper involvement in the "Ocean Decade," and enhance the synergy and efficiency of domestic activities related to the "Ocean Decade" to effectively support the work of the national committee, the Second Symposium on Advancing the Implementation of the United Nations "Ocean Decade": The workshop is planned to be held in Shanghai on January 12-13, 2024.
