On 17 March 2023, the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030) (Ocean Decade) Decade Collaborative Centre on Ocean-Climate Nexus and Coordination Amongst Decade Implementing Partners in P. R. China (DCC-OCC) and Ocean Negative Carbon Emissions (ONCE) Programme held an online meeting. The meeting was attended by staff from ONCE Secretariat: LIU Jihua, LUO Tingwei, PEI Mengqi and ZHANG Zeyu, as well as the DCC-OCC team.
The meeting started with an introduction of the DCC-OCC by Dr. GUAN Song, Senior Program Manager of DCC-OCC, including the general information, the recent progress and the key work plan for this year. Dr. LUO Tingwei, Deputy Secretary General of the ONCE Secretariat, introduced the overall situation of the Programme including the background, implementation plan and key issues.
During the discussion, Professor YU Weidong stated that DCC-OCC hopes to leverage its own platform advantages to provide assist and create more opportunities for the development of ONCE, striving to introduce ONCE to a broader platform and help it expand its influence. Dr. LUO put forward his needs in terms of joining the Call for Decade Action, promoting the establishment of global focal points, and filling in the Ocean Decade Monitoring and Evaluation Report Form. Prof. YU patiently responded and kindly provided suggestions.
At the end of the meeting, both sides highly valued the effectiveness of this meeting and expressed their willingness to open more dialogue and set up a regular communication mechanism to implement tangible cooperative actions.

ONCE was endorsed as the Ocean Decade Programme in June 2022, which will undertake and facilitate the science required to evaluate and implement eco-technological interventions, including learning from paleo-oceanic carbon processes to predict the future, restoring impacted marine ecosystems, fostering nature-based systems of land-sea integrated management, upwelling manipulation, microbial-driven comprehensive carbon sequestration, adjustment of nutrients, DO and pH.
