On April 19, 2023, the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development （2021-2030） （Ocean Decade） Decade Collaborative Centre on Ocean-Climate Nexus and Coordination Amongst Decade Implementing Partners in P. R. China （DCC-OCC） was invited to the Qingdao Innovation and Development Base of Harbin Engineering University （HEU） to have a seminar with the faculties and students of the university.

Dr. GUAN Song, Senior Program Manager of DCC-OCC, briefly introduced the launching background and preparatory phase of the Ocean Decade with a presentation themed “Approaching to DCC-OCC”， updated the progress of DCC-OCC since its establishment, and expressed the willingness of DCC-OCC to promote the participation of diverse stakeholders in the Ocean Decade. After that, Dr. WANG Shizhu, the Executive Director of the Ocean to Climate Seamless Forecasting System （OSF）， introduced the background, theoretical basis, and overall objectives of the OSF project, and highlighted the application of OSF products in the development of the blue economy. Finally, Dr. ZHAO Chenjie introduced the general information of Qingdao Innovation and Development Base of Harbin Engineering University, as well as the research achievements and international cooperation experience of his team in the field of polar sea ice.

In the discussion session, both sides had an in-depth exchange on how to scope and apply for the project under the Ocean Decade framework. The students and faculties of HEU showed a strong willingness of participating in the Ocean Decade and expressed that they would strengthen the communication and cooperation with DCC-OCC and OSF and actively engage in the Ocean Decade in the future.
