DCC-OCC and GO-BC Held the First Official Meeting

On November 23, 2022, the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030) (Ocean Decade) Decade Collaborative Centre on Ocean-Climate Nexus and Coordination Amongst Decade Implementing Partners in P. R. China (DCC-OCC) and the Global Ocean Decade Programme for Blue Carbon (GO-BC) held their first formal meeting. Professor William Austin from the University of St. Andrews, UK representing GO-BC and DCC-OCC staff participated in the meeting.

At the beginning of the meeting, Prof. William Austin briefly introduced the establishment of GO-BC, future work plans and goals. He expressed his hope to enhance the participation from China. After that, Prof. Yu Weidong introduced the background, main functions and progress of DCC-OCC, and actively proposed potential cooperation areas and matters with GO-BC.

During the discussion session, both sides exchanged views on the establishment of a regular communication mechanism and cooperation in the areas of capacity building and model development, and reached a preliminary consensus. DCC-OCC also expressed the willingness to provide a broader platform of communication and cooperation for the Ocean Decade Actions.


GO-BC was endorsed as a Decade Programme on June 8, 2022, which focuses on enhancing understanding of the ocean-climate nexus and generating new knowledge and solutions to mitigate the effects of climate change.
